Participants in 401(k) plans are not as self-directed as some professionals in the retirement market might presume.
The good news for those professionals is that 53% of participants now use an advisor for plan investment decisions, compared with 26% in 2000 and 20% in 1996.
Spectrem Group’s research shows 28% of participants use an advisor for both retirement and non-retirement investments and 25% use an advisor only for retirement investments. Another 6% use an advisor only for non-retirement investments. The balance of participants do not use an advisor.
