Some Optimism Returns After Last Month’s Dip Print E-mail

Though Cash and Stock Mutual Fund investing fell, all other investments rose, showing the Affluent are returning to the market, albeit, cautiously. Not Investing rose two points. Millionaires (35.3) have a much higher percentage for Cash investing than do the Non-Millionaires (25.2) and the same is true of Not Investing. Millionaires are at 28.7 and Non-Millionaires are 38.3 showing Millionaires returning to the market with more enthusiasm.  Real Estate that still carries the patina of the recent credit crisis rose from 10.8 to 14.3, its sharpest increase since March of 2007.

stock_picture_.jpgOver the past year, $489 billion was eligible for rollover and $245 billion was actually moved into IRAs.  Spectrem Group estimates that the amounts eligible for and transferred to IRA rollover accounts will increase at 10-12% annually over the next five years.

Indices move up for the second month in a row as comfort with economy settles in Print E-mail

index_april09.jpgThe Spectrem Affluent Investor Index (SAII)® rose 9 pts, after rising 8pts last month, perhaps settling in for a long haul, in economic terms. The Spectrem Millionaire Investor Index (SMII)® followed suit with a similar rise of 7 pts., it’s second in two months as well.

Despite the fact that the indices went up, Stock investing, a key driver of improved investment environment, stayed the same. Not Investing also rose slightly, as did all other investment options, except Cash. Bonds rose to their all-time high this month, and Bond Mutual Funds were up slightly.
